THREE TIMES WORLD SOLO CHAMPION, JASON CRUMP INTO AUSTRALIAN SIDE TO CHALLENGE GREAT BRITAIN

January 14, 2020/in General News, Sponsored Riders/by Linda Russell
In a dramatic twist to the two forthcoming Australia Versus Great Britain International Friendlies at Perth’s Pinjar Park Motorcycle Speedway this coming weekend, Jason Crump, Australian 3 times World Solo Champion, has been selected as Australia’s lead rider to replace an exhausted Sam Masters who is suffering fatigue after his recent punishing Australian title campaign.

The former Australian International Speedway GP rider Jason Crump won three World Solo Championships in an illustrious career, however he only rides in selected high profile Australian events these days and quickly accepted an invitation to ride in the International Friendlies against the old foe, Great Britain at Pinjar Park Speedway in the West on Friday and Saturday evening.

It has been almost 20 years since we last saw Jason Crump race in Perth.
Jason Crump’s inclusion in the Australian side certainly bolsters their hopes of taking it up to a strong young Lions side which includes another 3 times World Solo Champion, Tai Woffinden.

Image may contain: 2 people, outdoorRohan Tungate also had to withdraw from the Australian side after his brutal Aussie title campaign, however classy South Australian rider Dakota Ballantyne was quickly snapped up by the selection panel and added to the Aussie lineup. He has previously ridden at Pinjar Park on both tracks. He loves the confines of the small track and will be hard to beat in round one on Friday evening at this venue. He has also performed well on the free flowing 330m track and will be a great inclusion in the Aussie side.

Western Australian International Cam Heeps who recently returned from another very successful season in the UK racing for the Ipswich Witches was in scintillating form at his first ride back on Australian soil when he won the Solo Final at the recent Jeff Gittus Memorial meeting at Pinjar Park. Cam will be the anchor for Australia and his workload on both nights will be huge.

Another South Australian Fraser Bowes has been bought into the Australian side to replace WA rider; Doug Scoble, who has had to withdraw due to out of town work commitments.
Fraser is the grandson of Former Australian Sidecar Champion Len Bowes, a tough and fearless racer who dominated sidecar racing in SA and Australia for many years. Fraser has previously raced at Pinjar Park as a junior, winning the Australian 125cc Championship at this venue.

Fraser will join two West Australian hotshots, former WA Champion, Dan Winchester and Kale Ballantyne.

Image may contain: 1 person, standing and outdoorDan is enjoying a great season and has a new fresh engine for this meeting after popping one at the Perth Motorplex at his last outing a week ago. Kale Ballantyne certainly knows how to get around both the tight 142m tack and the fast flowing 330m long track and will throw everything into his racing to bag some handy points for the home team.

Graeme Sinden from “Talking About Speedway” said he was delighted with the changes to the Australian line up. “I believe the new look Australian lineup is as good or better than the original team and it hasn’t gotten any easier for Great Britain to win against our boys. All riders are in great shape and it is good to have riders who can step up and gain experience at this level”.

Speedway Motorcycle Club of WA President Marshall McDiarmid said he supported the changes to the lineup and congratulated Mark Lemon for being able to turn things around quickly and assist the club to select this strong new look side at late notice.
Marshall said, “It’s is a credit to him and his commitment to speedway. I think the inclusion of Jason Crump, Dakota Ballantyne and Fraser Bowes are fantastic and the new look side looks very well balanced on paper”.

Image may contain: 1 person, motorcycle and outdoor

Marshall went on, “A big thanks to Ian Sinderson from APTI for his quick response and personal involvement in helping to pull all these great riders together and also the Bennco Group for their valuable sponsorship of the event”.

2020 AUSTRALIAN F1 AND F2 SIDECAR CHAMPIONSHIP EXPANDED

January 14, 2020/in General News, Sponsored Riders/by Linda Russell

The 2020 Horsell Australian F1 and F2 Sidecar Championship will be expanded to five rounds, including for the first time at The Bend Motorsport Park, South Australia.

The Australian F1 and F2 Sidecar Championship will also return to Barbagallo Raceway, Western Australia after a three-year hiatus, alongside Kings of Wanneroo.

With continued support from Horsell and Pagid Brakepads, the 2020 season is shaping up to be hard fought battle in both F1 and F2 sidecar categories.

Motorcycling Australia Road Race Events Manager, Liz Galazkiewicz, said the 2020 Horsell F1 and F2 Sidecar Championship expansion would provide spectators with an even better show.

“We are very excited to have the Australian F1 and F2 Sidecar Championship appearing for the first time at The Bend Motorsport Park as well as returning to Western Australia’s Barbagallo Raceway,” she said.

“We know both the Bend Motorsport Park and Barbagallo Raceway will attract strong fields and good crowds to witness these fearless men and women of the Sidecar Championship.

“MA would like to extend our thanks to Motorcycle Sportsmen of QLD (Masters of Morgan Park), Pheonix Club (Adelade 3 Hour), and Motor Cycle Racing Club of WA (Kings of Wanneroo) for inviting the Championship to join their existing events.”

“Thank you to Jeff Brown for reaching out to the clubs and creating the relationship for the Championship to run alongside their events. Having the opportunity to attend three of the biggest club promoted events in the country is an honour and really demonstrates the spectacle that Sidecar racing is and helps create a diverse Championship.”

“There is strong commitment from teams for the expanded competition and we are proud to again have the support of Horsell and Pagid Brakepads for the Australian F1 and F2 Sidecar Championship.”

The 2019 Championship saw young gun brothers Corey and Danyon Turner crowned F1 Sidecar Champions ahead of WA’s Jero Joyce and Corey Blackman in 2nd and former Champions Howard Ford and Lee Menzies 3rd, and no doubt the battle for the 2020 title will be just as intense.

The Clancy family dominated F2 Sidecars with Pat Clancy and Steve Bonney finishing on top, John Clancy and Warren Grubb second, and Mick Alton and Chrissy Clancy third.

Two rounds of the Championship will run with the Australian Superbike Championship and one with Masters of Morgan Park.

Round 2: 15-17 May – Morgan Park Raceway – Masters of Morgan Park

WA’s Young Gun, Regan Duffy’s pre MXoN chat with 6PR’s Millsy & Basil

September 18, 2019/in General News, Sponsored Riders/by Linda Russell

Many times over the past decade, Radio 6PR’s Millsy and Regan Duffy’s paths have crossed, usually over jokes at trophy presentations-some of which have been memorable to audience members-the WA Motocross Community.

Leading up to the MXoN we organised for a very chuffed Millsy to catch up with Duffy prior to heading overseas to the “Olympics of Motocross”.  Sadly before the interview could take place tragedy struck the WA motocross community with the passing of one of Regan’s childhood mates, Rhys Burnett.

Thank you Millsy, Basil and News Talk 6PR 882 for sensitively supporting our sport and the motocross community once again.

Take 5 minutes, have a read and then listen to the podcast interview (Courtesy of 6PR) -the strength and character of 17 year old champion, Regan Duffy, is to be admired.

“WA Motocross Champ continues on after friend’s death”

A WA Motocross rider is heading to Amsterdam to represent Australia at the World Championships next week, but it was only days ago he lost a fellow rider and good friend after a crash on the track.

West Australian teenager Regan Duffy will make his appearance on the world stage.

“It’s massive, it’s the Olympics of motocross and for me to get chosen at 17 to represent my country, it’s pretty crazy actually,” Duffy told 6PR Breakfast.

But it will be a bitter sweet journey for him after his childhood friend, Rhys “Roo” Burnett, died after an accident during a competition last weekend.

“He was always smiling, always joking and now I’m just going to continue on for Roo,” he told Steve and Baz.

GPR Trucks sponsored rider, Kayden Minear, podiums at World Junior Motocross

September 11, 2019/in General News, Sponsored Riders/by Linda Russell

Team Australia’s World Junior Motocross (WJMX) riders have proven themselves amongst the best in the world once again this year, competing in the prestigious FIM Junior Motocross World Championship in Pietramurata, Italy, last on July 13-14. The green and gold riders fared particularly well in the 65cc World MX Junior Cup, with KTM riders Ky Woods and Kayden Minear (GPR Trucks) finishing second and fourth respectively.

Boasting some of the world’s best junior motocross riders, the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship saw Aussies represented across all three classes (65, 85, and 125cc). Although they were unable to successfully defend Australia’s Team of Nations trophy won on home soil at Horsham in Victoria, the team that traveled to Italy acquitted themselves brilliantly, finishing ninth overall and representing their country proudly.

Team Australia Team Manager Mark Willingham was quick to praise the efforts of all the riders representing Australia in Italy. “Really happy with the effort from all the riders,” Willingham said. “Similar to some previous years our 65cc class riders were amazing, and then we see the strength of the European racing program really shine through in the 85 and 125 classes.

“From my perspective, Team Australia had one of the best set ups we’ve ever provided on site to ensure the riders had everything they needed. With our main section arranged under the Diga Racing truck we had a full catering service for our meals along with their experience and guidance. On top of this our Yamaha riders were provided services from Yamaha Europe’s official race trucks, which was a result of all the effort the Aussies arranged last year welcoming the European riders at Horsham.

“In the end Team Australia finished up 9th in the standings, and were the first team home that was unable to score points in all 3 classes.”

Ryder Kingsford (Yamaha) and Campbell Williams (KTM) also made it to the finals, finishing in 13th and 24th places in the 85cc class. Also representing Australia were Alex Larwood (Yamaha,125cc), and Blake Fox (KTM, 125cc).

Give Me 5 For Kids Frasers Range Charity Ride-6th-7th July 2019

June 16, 2019/in General News, Sponsored Riders/by Linda Russell

Chain Reaction Motorcycles are proud sponsors and supporters of this years GIVE ME 5 FOR KIDS Frasers Range Charity and encourage you to start thinking about getting your entries in for this fantastic, fun filled charity ride for a heart wrenching cause.

The GIVE ME 5 FOR KIDS Frasers Range Charity ride IS on again for 2019 and it is time to raise some funds for the families from the Goldfields region that may need some much needed financial help when they have to travel to the Perth Children’s Hospital for treatment of their children.

WA’s first Give Me 5 For Kids trail ride was successfully held in 2016 along with the road ride from Kalgoorlie/Boulder to Frasers Range Station/Caravan Park and back, a massive 600km’s. Everyone that was involved in the event can be proud of themselves because they raised $7500 for the Perth Children’s Hospital Goldfields Family Assistance Trust fund .

The Give Me 5 For Kids Frasers Range Charity Ride event was held again in 2017 and 2018 and again the riders, supporters and sponsors of this event should be extremely proud of themselves. In the last two years the event has added a further $17386 to the first year’s total, giving a total to date of $ 24886.00.

For the people that have not had the pleasure of attending the past three year’s rides, Give Me 5 For Kids is a fund raising idea that is organised by Southern Cross Austereo and their radio stations Australia wide.

Triple M 981 Goldfields promotes Give Me 5 For Kids to raise funds for the Perth Children’s Hospital Goldfields Family Assistance Trust Fund and the fund is managed by the Boulder Rotary Club.  The fund set up to financially help families from all over the Goldfields that may need financial help when their children have to spend a large amount of time in Perth and Perth Children’s Hospital with illnesses. The fund managers have advised that the Boulder Rotary Club has distributed approximately $70 000 already to Goldfields Families that have been in need so far this financial year.

The time has come for motorcycle riders, families and volunteers to have some fun by doing what we enjoy and raise some more funds for the trust fund. Ray Moore and his trusty band of volunteer helpers, Rossie and Steve  have already been out 4WD driving and planning another new route again this year from Kalgoorlie/Boulder to Frasers Range Station and back again. This year they are trying to mark out as much of a new course for the riders again as possible.  The course will be of similar style as to the 2016/2017/2018 course, marked on 4WD drive tracks and fence lines. The course will also cover some very interesting and different terrain again this year.

Ray Moore, the dedicated man behind the event, said “Unfortunately I cannot change the road course, I would like to change it for all the road riders and add a few more bends for everyone to have some fun on, but we may have to talk to Main Roads”.

“I would also like to THANK the some of the helpers that we have had over the years doing fuel/lunch checks, sweep vehicles and doing set up down at Fraser Range Station, Ray and Lyn Close, Ron Earle, Lynne Davidson, Jim Donohoe, Doug Underwood, Harry Taylor, Marty Miles, Con Wallace, Graeme Orlandi also a big thank you to Raelene Hutchinson and Glenn Wilson. Another big Thank you needs to be given to our sweeps over the past years, Paul Nappy, Gavin Cullen and Josh Howell”.

“Plan your calendar and highlight this date so you do not miss out on a great ride for the weekend and most of all raise some funds for a great charity. PLEASE give this information and entry form to as many of your mates, friends, families and anybody you can think of that might enjoy a great week end riding in the Goldfields area”.

“I would also like to add that this GREAT EVENT is not just about motorcycle riders, SO please bring  the family and friends along, so they can meet you down at Frasers Range Station/Caravan Park and enjoy the night of entertainment  at the park. The station/caravan park has a great amount of history that the family will be able to experience and enjoy”.

“On the Saturday night we will have entertainment at the Station/Caravan Park and there will be drinks for sale, with the proceeds going towards the charity. So please support the cause”.

On the Saturday Night the charity have managed to obtain some signed Toby Price merchandise to be raffled and drawn on Saturday Night. Tickets will be limited and every paid entrant will receive ONE FREE Ticket in the raffle and the remainder will be sold on the night valued at $10.00.

The 2018 sponsors and helpers have all come on board again this year and the charity have gained some more sponsors of the event. This year there will be giveaways and some small raffles to also add to the cause for the charity.  So please were possible, please support these people that are making this event happen, Triple M 981, St John Ambulance Kalgoorlie, Woolworths Kalgoorlie, Eagle Petroleum, GCS Kalgoorlie, Motorcycling WA, Motul, Pirelli, Nelsen Rigg, M2R, GPR Truck Service and Repairs, Hydramech and Cycle Products West, Genevese’s Carbarn Newsagency & Deli, Toby Price and Spectrum Picture Framing.
